The Social Opportunity Institute (IOS) is a non-profit organization which offers professional training to low-income young people and people with disabilities.
The great differential of IOS is to count on all the structure and support provided by TOTVS, its maintaining company. Absolute leader in Brazil and in Latin America, TOTVS is a company of software, innovation, relationship and support to management. It counts on the support of colleges, universities and other social companies to maintain the Institute and spread it to other cities. IOS currently operates in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Uberlândia, Pouso Alegre, Curitiba, Cuiabá, Goiânia and Joinville.
To use your know-how for the benefit of others: that is TOTVS philosophy to support the Institute. This concept makes IOS unique in its activities. In practice, students learn the administration routine of different departments of companies, thanks to the teaching of TOTVS software operations.
Students from IOS are trained to work in areas such as Purchases, Sales, Inventory, Financials, Accounting (including SPED), CRM, Payroll and Commercial Automation, operating TOTVS ERP systems and other systems in the market. In fact, the training provided by IOS goes far beyond information technology. Subjects such as Business Concepts, Communication and Expression, and Mathematical Calculation contribute to the professional background of students, who have to present a final paper at the end of the course.
It is no wonder that IOS has former students currently working in companies such as Etna Vivara, Balaska, Burger King Brazil, Orcimed, Guaratinguetá, TIVIT, Certisign, among others. This is easy to explain: many large companies use ERP systems in which young people become specialists. Besides, TOTVS has a partnership with 26,000 companies, which always have openings for specialized labor force.
The success of IOS is demonstrated by numbers: an average of 45% of young people trained by IOS is employed as apprentices, trainees or even as permanent employees within up to six months after the end of the course. It is an average of 220 new jobs every semester. Ever since its foundation in 1998, IOS has already trained around 20,000 students. Among these, two groups had only people with disabilities: 33 students were trained and currently work at TOTVS.
IOS is more than an education project with great results; it is an Institute opening new possibilities to young people who have had very few opportunities until then.
